Guys are the hardest to buy presents for, amirite?! So guys and gals, if you’re buying a Valentine’s Day present for a special guy in your life, we think we know what he wants:
1. Food!
The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, we’ve been told, though probably not from anyone with a background in human biology. But even so, men like food! This year, get your guy 89 more weeks of food. We know that seems like a long-term investment, but think of all the homemade* baked goods! All we have to do is close the wage gap.
*Store bought and repackaged in tupperware you already have at home.
2. A man cave!
Guys like their space. And they definitely like when that space comes with a roof over their heads. You can get your guy 7 more months of mortgage payments - by closing the wage gap.
3. Road Trip!
What guy doesn’t want to channel his inner Kerouac and hit the road for some cross-country adventures? Wind in his hair, Springsteen on the radio, a bag of Fritos from that last rest stop by his side - perfection. Don’t make him choose between seeing the World’s Largest Ball of Twine in Cawker City, Kansas and the Leaning Tower of Niles in Niles, Illinois, or the Life-Size Chocolate Moose in Scarborough, Maine and the World’s Largest Pistachio Nut in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Crazy, we know, people don’t usually poll about Valentine’s Day presents, but we’re extra thorough. In fact, 68% of men would like access to affordable child care so fewer women feel the need to leave the workplace.
5. Equal Pay!
Guys are already making a $1 on the $1, but as it turns out, 64% of them would really like to end gender discrimination, like paying women less than men for the same work. Economic opportunity helps families on the whole - and guys really like their families (awww).
6. Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act!
We don’t pretend to always understand our guys. Just like we don’t really get playing video games for hours on end, or carving out your entire Monday night to watch Monday Night Raw. But 58% of guys want the Paycheck Fairness Act passed so it would be harder for employers to pay workers different wages for the same work. So we don’t ask questions.
7. Money!
And if all else fails: Cash! Dough! Benjamins! Clams! Moolah! Greenbacks! It seems easy, but guys like money. 55% of them would like to increase the minimum wage to $10.10/hour because more than two-thirds of minimum wage workers are women and this would help close the wage gap. I bet you can find one of those punny cash cards at the drug store.
