Reproductive rights are at the forefront of news right now… we’re standing up and saying, ‘This isn’t right, and who are you to tell me what to do with my body?’” – Tatiana Maslany on Orphan Black, August 15, 2015

We love Orphan Black’s powerful advocacy for respecting women’s reproductive rights. Best of luck to leading actress Tatiana Maslany at the Emmy Awards tonight!

They Aren’t Based In Evidence, But These Arguments Are Convincing Lawmakers Abortions Are Dangerous

A large body of research confirms that abortion is a very safe medical procedure with an incredibly low rate of serious complications. Nonetheless, anti-abortion groups have successfully furthered the notion that abortion procedures are risky for patients, convincing lawmakers across the country to impose additional restrictions on clinics and doctors that ultimately make it more difficult for them to remain operating.

Really, it’s banning abortion that is downright dangerous.

GOP Wasting No Time

Just days into the 114th Congress Republicans have already introduced five anti-abortion bills, making it clear exactly what their focus is: restricting women’s rights and access to health care. They swiftly abandoned their faux-moderate campaign rhetoric and prioritized cutting funds to Planned Parenthood and making it more difficult for women to have access to reproductive health care.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has wasted no time helping advance this agenda – promising to bring a 20-week ban, a bill violating the provisions of Roe v. Wade, to the Senate floor for consideration. Americans want Congress to be focusing on jobs and the economy and protecting their rights, one week in and Republicans have already fallen down on the job.
