Leslie Knope was confident, ambitious, and totally not afraid to call out the silly questions women in politics are always asked. We’re going to miss her. And tonight, we’ll be cheering for Amy Poehler to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series!
Corollary: When someone tells me that they don’t understand why it’s such a big deal that we elect more women to office.
We’ll take on the mantle of explaining! Just look at
the women we’ve elected – they are fighting for women and families every day.
They bring new perspectives to the table – and they stand up to anti-choice,
anti-family policies every chance they get.
We love this LA Times article about how pop culture is influencing our elections–almost as much as we love Leslie Knope. Hopefully, strong female characters in politics and other roles will inspire more women to run for office!
