The 19th Amendment was ratified 100 years ago today! This amendment to the Constitution granted women the right to vote. And there’s more to the story. The passage of the 19th Amendment did not guarantee full voting rights for all women. Because of racism and discrimination, women of color were held back from the vote. We must remember the foundation and contributions to women’s suffrage provided by Native American, Black, Latina, and Asian women. Today, we remember the hard-fought struggles – those seen and unseen. Today, we celebrate more women voting and more women of color serving in office than ever before! It took us a long time to get here. There is more work to do! We must continue to protect voting rights and equal access for all.
